A few weeks ago, my yoga teacher reminded us to constantly re-kindle our sense of wonder. "Like this! How amazing!" she said, picking up a stone.
When an airplane flies over the house, the babe drops everything. He goes to the window, he looks to the sky. He points and humms like an engine. He truly offers up the respect and awe that each flight deserves. It is wonderful and amazing that we humans can ascend 30,000 feet in a giant bird, and cross an entire ocean in a night.
The other day we were playing in the yard. Ulgh, I was thinking, I have to get the grass cut. I abused myself for a while about how lazy and ill bred I am for letting the lawn go. Until the girl stood next to a particularly high, feathery stalk and said, "Mommy! Look at this one! I love it!" It was, actually, a lovely blade of grass.
